His infatuation with John continued for years after that point. Larry began a careful affair with John which lasted until his 'accident'. Some time before 1961, Larry met John Bowers, a colleague in the Air Force. In a flashback to his childhood it is revealed that Larry's parents were aware of their son's sexuality from an early age and that he witnessed their shame toward him.
